Welcome to week 7 of our $29 grocery budget challenge. This week we are shopping at Walmart.
We are doing pretty well at using up everything we buy, except for where I have bought larger amounts that I hoped would last longer. One thing I found for this week’s shopping trip is that your selection at Walmart will really vary based on where you live.
The super center closest to me has a different supply than the one that is a bit farther away. The one that is farther away and in a slightly more rural area actually seems to have more organic produce than this one. However, I was happy to see that even the local one is carrying more organic foods at a good value.
Shopping on a tight budget and wanting to buy organic when you are able can be a bit difficult. I use the year’s ‘dirty dozen’ guide to choose products that will make the most difference. Not only do they share the worst offenders, but they also share the products that you need to worry about the least. At the end of the day though, you have to shut out the noise and realize that eating fruits and vegetables, whether conventional or organic, is better than not eating fruits and vegetables when it comes down to what you can and cannot afford.
One great way to save at Walmart is to sign up for and download their savings catcher app. Once you finish shopping, you scan your receipt and they search local deals to see if you could get it cheaper elsewhere and give you the difference. I saved a whopping $0.08 this week, but hey,a penny saved….
