billy woods — GOLLIWOG

Influenced by the legacy of MF DOOM, Toni Morrison, and the dystopian worlds of Ray Bradbury, billy woods’ GOLLIWOG unfolds a dense narrative that collides Afropessimism, surrealism, and horror. The New York rapper shared three singles ahead of the release, including “Misery,” a haunting track produced by Kenny Segal; the single extended the duo’s creative partnership after 2023’s Maps, which we named one of the the best albums of the year.

The Head and the Heart — Aperture

The Head and the Heart have returned withAperture, their first album in three years and their first release since signing to Verve Forecast. Notably, the project is the band’s first entirely self-produced album, and their first with a brand new songwriting style: Each band member brought something different to the process, trying out new roles and centering Apertureas the work of aband, not just a songwriter and his instrumentalists.

Mark Pritchard & Thom Yorke — Tall Tales

Thom Yorke may have put Radiohead on hold for now, but not for lack of creative juices flowing. Instead, he’s been busy pouring his heart into a new collaborative venture with English experimental electronic artist Mark Pritchard. Expect Yorke’s haunting vocals melding gracefully with Pritchard’s jagged, synth-heavy beats and songs that sound fit for a John Wick fight sequence.

Men I Trust — Equus Caballus

Active is a bit of an understatement for Quebec natives Men I Trust, who released their third album this year in the form of Equus Caballus. While the record is ripe with 2025 re-records of previously released singles “Ring Of Past,” “Husk,” and “Billie Toppy,” the band makes sure to round out the collection with a fresh wave of sonic textures that reinforce their mastery of the dream pop sound that thrust them into ‘indie darling’ status in the first place.

PinkPantheress — Fancy That

PinkPantheress has releaseda lot of music over the last five years, but believe it or not, Fancy That is technically just her second mixtape. Appropriately, the new music picks up right where she left off, but this time there’s even more influence from the British dance artists she grew up on: Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada, and Fatboy Slim. Plus, lead single “Tonight” samplesPretty. Odd-era Panic! at the Disco, so no reference is too far-fetched for PinkPantheress.

Preoccupations — Ill at Ease

With Ill at Ease, Preoccupations channel rising tensions into texture, tracing their psychological unrest into thundering percussion and glistening guitar lines. Existential dread is out in full force, as the Calgary post-punk outfit crafts a soundtrack for a slow decline: jagged, relentless, and surprisingly euphoric.

Sleep Token — Even in Arcadia

In case you hadn’t heard over the last few years, Sleep Token have emerged as one of the biggest metal acts in the world, period. The masked, anonymous British rockers have stumbled upon a sound as brutal as it is beautiful, andEven In Arcadia — which they’ve been cryptically rolling out across social media over the last few months (not to mention getting an actual weatherman in North Carolina to tease the album) — is a testament to their hard rock royalty status.
